Gaming publisher 2K has partnered with The Play Company (TPC) to introduce Play NBA 2K, a competitive tournament service launching April 17, 2025. Integrated into TPC’s flagship platform, Play OS, this new service allows NBA 2K players across the U.S. to join weekly and celebrity-hosted tournaments, including the chance to win real cash prizes.

The service debuts with Play Now and MyTEAM tournament modes, available through the Play OS mobile app or the official website, playnba2k.gg. More formats and event types are expected in the coming months, expanding the competitive landscape for the NBA 2K community.

The partnership marks a significant evolution in 2K’s competitive ecosystem, officially designating Play OS as the Official Tournament Platform for NBA 2K. Through this deal, The Play Company will handle the organization and coordination of all tournaments, from recurring weekly competitions to high-profile events hosted by NBA stars and celebrities. Meanwhile, 2K will support the effort with in-game promotion, a dedicated button in the Play Now menu for tournament access, and social media campaigns.

Brandon Pitts, CEO of The Play Company, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, “Unlocking the ability for NBA 2K players to earn real cash prizes through competitive play marks a major milestone for us and the industry. We’re incredibly grateful to the team at 2K for helping make this transformative partnership a reality.”

Ronnie Singh, known in the community as “Ronnie 2K” and Head of Lifestyle and Content Marketing at 2K, emphasized the brand’s commitment to expanding player engagement: “This deal with The Play Company serves as yet another way to quench the thirst of our competitive 2K community.”

Tournaments are open to U.S. residents with different eligibility requirements depending on entry type. Free-to-enter tournaments are available to players aged 13 and older (excluding Arizona), while paid tournaments are accessible to players 18 and older in states where such competitions are legally permitted. Full rules, eligibility requirements, and entry details are provided on the official tournament website.

Founded in 2019 and formerly known as One Up, The Play Company is recognized for its on-demand tournament solutions, allowing players to compete for cash across popular games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, Madden NFL, and, of course, NBA 2K. Their proprietary Play OS technology enables seamless user-generated tournaments and challenges, making it an ideal fit for 2K’s growing esports infrastructure.

With this launch, 2K and The Play Company aim to offer a more accessible and rewarding competitive experience to fans nationwide—blending the thrill of esports, celebrity culture, and grassroots gaming into one unified tournament platform.
