PGL Astana 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest Counter-Strike 2 tournaments of the year, featuring a $1.6 million prize pool, global qualifiers, and a live final at Kazakhstan’s Barys Arena. Here’s everything you need to know.

PGL Esports has officially announced the return of top-tier Counter-Strike 2 action with PGL Astana 2026, set to take place from May 7th to 18th in Kazakhstan’s capital. The grand finale will be hosted live at the iconic Barys Arena, where the top 16 CS2 teams in the world will battle it out for a share of a massive $1.6 million (~£1.18m) prize pool.

Prize Pool and Format

The prize pool distribution includes both direct prize winnings and club rewards, with $512,000 awarded to the tournament champions. Half of that amount ($256,000) will go to the players, and the remaining half to their organization. The runner-up will receive $240,000, followed by $192,000 and $112,000 for third and fourth place, respectively. Even teams finishing in the 15th-16th positions will walk away with $16,000.

Teams will be seeded based on VRS (Valve Ranking System), with 12 teams receiving direct invites according to their rankings as of March 2, 2026. The final seeding will be based on updated VRS standings from April 6, 2026. The remaining four teams will secure their spots through a rigorous qualification process.

Global Qualifier System

The path to Astana is paved with a global qualifying structure, giving teams from around the world a fair shot at the spotlight. Qualifiers are divided into regions: Europe, North America, South America, and Asia, each with its own Open and Closed stages.

  • Open Qualifiers (Feb 14–17, 2026):
Each region hosts two Open Qualifiers, with the top two teams from each advancing.
  • Closed Qualifiers (Feb 26 – Mar 1, 2026):
The eight teams (four from Open, four invited via VRS rankings) compete in a double-elimination Bo3 bracket, culminating in a Bo5 Grand Final. The winners of each Closed Qualifier move on to the main event.

Asia’s Unique Qualifying Path

Asia is split into three sub-regions: Oceania, West Asia, and East Asia. Each will invite two teams based on regional VRS rankings and hold one Open Qualifier. The top two from each Open will join the invited teams in the Closed Qualifier, again played in a double-elimination Bo3 format. The winner of each sub-region advances to the Asia Finals.

The Asia Finals feature the top three teams. Two teams face off in a Bo3, and the winner meets the third team in a Bo5 final to determine the region’s sole qualifier for PGL Astana 2026.

Tickets and Rules

While ticket sales have yet to go live, PGL has confirmed they will be available soon. In addition, the tournament will implement strict roster eligibility guidelines and integrity rules, ensuring fair competition at the highest level.

As excitement builds, PGL Astana 2026 is already shaping up to be one of the most prestigious CS2 tournaments of the year, bringing top talent and fierce competition to the heart of Kazakhstan.
