Red Bull and The Tetris Company launch a groundbreaking global esports tournament featuring new gameplay mechanics and a spectacular finale at Dubai Frame. Here’s everything you need to know.
Red Bull has officially partnered with The Tetris Company to launch the first-ever global Tetris esports tournament, combining the timeless appeal of the classic puzzle game with Red Bull’s signature flair for high-octane competitive events. Dubbed Red Bull Tetris, the tournament promises to be the ultimate showcase of skill, speed, and innovation, introducing exciting new twists to one of gaming’s most iconic titles.
The announcement marks a major milestone in the 40-year history of Tetris, taking the franchise into uncharted competitive territory. Open to players worldwide aged 18 and over, the tournament is designed to welcome all skill levels through open qualifiers, which are now live in select regions. While UK qualifiers are yet to be detailed, Red Bull has stated that updates will be announced in the coming months.
A standout feature of this new tournament is the inclusion of special power-ups, a gameplay innovation crafted to challenge even the most seasoned Tetris players. These additions will debut during the qualifiers and will remain a core part of the format through to the National Finals. The goal, according to Red Bull, is to not only test traditional stacking prowess but also to introduce dynamic challenges that elevate the competitive experience.

The winners of each regional National Final will earn a place at the Global Final, which is scheduled to take place from December 11th to 13th at the Dubai Frame, an architectural marvel standing 150 meters tall and 95 meters wide in Zabeel Park, Dubai. The final showdown will be nothing short of spectacular: over 2,000 drones will be deployed to represent the iconic tetrominoes in a dramatic, large-scale display inside the frame structure itself.
Maya Rogers, President and CEO of The Tetris Company, expressed excitement about the partnership and its implications for the game’s future. “Tetris has been bringing people together for more than 40 years,” she said. “Partnering with Red Bull to launch a global competition is an exciting next chapter. We’re passionate about evolving the ways people experience the game, and this tournament is another meaningful step in sharing the joy of Tetris with the world.”
Red Bull’s involvement in the esports scene is far from new. The brand has previously hosted high-profile tournaments for games such as Apex Legends, Street Fighter, League of Legends, VALORANT, and Trackmania, each marked by unique formats and visually captivating live events.
While this is Tetris’ most ambitious foray into modern esports, it already has a thriving competitive scene. Since 2010, the Classic Tetris World Championship (CTWC) has been a staple of the community, drawing elite players from around the world. In 2025, CTWC continues with events like CTWC DAS in Cologne, Germany, scheduled for July 17–19.
With Red Bull and The Tetris Company now officially elevating the game to a global esports platform, Red Bull Tetris is set to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience blending nostalgia, innovation, and next-level spectacle.
